Catholics Are Taking Over New Jersey Government (and America, Too)

Acting Attorney General Jeff Chiesa will be able to drop the “acting” modifier from his title very soon, Save Jerseyans. He received the overwhelming assent of the state senate’s Democrat-dominated judiciary committee earlier this morning. The vote was unanimous: 12-0. Here’s Mr. Chiesa’s professional bio, courtesy of the Senate GOP:

Chiesa served as Chief Counsel to the Governor from January 2010 to December 2011, when he was nominated to be Attorney General. He served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of New Jersey from 2002 to 2009, last serving as the Executive Assistant to the U.S. Attorney. He also served as Counsel to the U.S. Attorney and as Chief of the Public Protection Unit, where he supervised a group of Assistant U.S. attorneys primarily responsible for the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases involving bank robbery, child pornography, human trafficking and identity theft.

What this biography doesn’t include is his legal alma mater: the Catholic University of America (CUA) located in Washington, D.C. New Christie COS Kevin O’Dowd is also a CUA grad and another well-known NJGOP’er, my good buddy Mike Donohue (Chairman of the Cape May GOP), also went to law school at CUA. Yours truly is an alum of CUA’S Arts and Sciences school, but I came home to Rutgers for my JD. Hopelessly loyal to New Jersey!

The general trend is what I find most interesting: Catholics are taking over American government, particularly on the right side of the aisle. Yes, many of these leaders of tomorrow are Hispanic like Marco Rubio. Many more are not. The U.S. Supreme Court is 5-4 Catholic (and on a lot of other things, too). Mitt Romney’s two most prominent challengers for the GOP presidential nomination, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich,  are both practicing Catholics (Note: Newt converted to Catholicism at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception next to CUA’s campus where his wife was a member of the choir).

And, of course, our very own Governor Chris Christie is a Catholic and a Seton Hall law graduate. A plurality of New Jerseyans share their Governor’s religion.

Plenty of academics – secular and religious – are already debating how (if at all) an increasingly Catholic political culture will affect American governance. We’ve been a Protestant majority country for our entire history; that’s about to change if current demographic patterns hold.

It’s something to think about.

Which wife? Door number 1, door number 2, or door number 3?

  2. New Jersey government grants are available to the citizens of New Jersey, to enable them to meet various financial problems. The New Jersey government grant for college students is one such grant, which provides pre-financial assistance to college students. As the cost of higher education is steeply going up nowadays, students having limited financial resources are hard put to pursue their education. The New Jersey government grants for college students are designed to help such students to complete their education. Students, and also their parents, are increasingly interested in these grants, to pay for tuition fee and other incidental college expenses. Scholarships and grants are any day, more beneficial to the student community than student loans or educational plans. The New Jersey government grants for college students are not required to be paid back, after you qualify for a scholarship. You will continue to receive the financial help, so long as you stay in the college and sometimes, even after graduation.
