Folks, check out this piece on Blue Jersey written by Democratic Sen. Loretta Weinberg. It’s a piece that slams Christie for his position on gay marriage (but not the 4 Dems in Trenton who voted no), a shoutout to some specific legislators, including the GOPers who voted for it, and then some back slapping for people involved in the cause.
The piece was written on an opinion blog where only Weinberg was identified as the author. When she thanked the GOPers who supported gay marriage, she had to add the qualifier that it was just her personal opinion.
By adding that qualifier, Weinberg made it clear that the rest of her piece was actually the official position of the New Jersey Democratic Party. Which means the following.
- It is the official position of the New Jersey Democratic Party to personally attack GOPers who did not support S1/A1 while not saying a word about the 4 Democratic legislators who did not support S1/A1.
- It is the official position of the New Jersey Democratic Party to slap themselves on the back for passage of this bill but to ignore and leave out in the cold any GOPers who showed the bipartisanship that Democrats were asking for on this bill.
By excluding GOPers who voted for the bill and glossing over Democrats who voted against it, the New Jersey Democratic Party has made it clear their number one concern about the gay marriage issue is PR and politics, not passage.
If it were passage, the New Jersey Democratic Party would be embracing the GOPers who voted for the bill and asking them to reach out to others to help with a veto over ride, while at the same time talking to their own 4 members who voted the other way.
Instead, they’re just getting ready for a 2012 battle fueled by donations from gay marriage activists.
