OPEN THREAD: Are Tax Credits the Best Way to Keep Jobs in Jersey?

Pearson Education, a publishing company headquartered in Saddle River, NJ, has announced that it will be moving its base of operations to Hoboken rather than going across the Hudson.

This result comes through the extensive lobbying efforts led by the Governor’s Office and the benefit of a targeted tax credit.

This is of course good news for Hoboken, but – I pose the question to our readershipis this the best way to pursue job growth in New Jersey?

Do special tax credits just open the door for corrupt influence?

Is it more efficient to offer special breaks or spread that money around by lowering overall business taxes?

What will attract businesses to start, stay, and grow in New Jersey?
