Save Rutgers: Rutgers-Camden Faculty Writes to the Board of Governors and Trustees on Merger

The plan to merge Rutgers-Camden and Rowan can theoretically only go through with approval from the Board of Governors and Board of Trustees.

Last night, the faculty of Rutgers Law in Camden sent a letter (which I received via email) to both boards asking that they consider a number of points before making a final decision on the merger proposal. To paraphrase:

  1. Rutgers is a nationally recognized law school and changing the name will hurt that reputation and destroy the years it took to build it.
  2. Much of the faculty has built its reputation and had the ability to publish research through Rutgers that adds value to the overall university statewide.
  3. Rutgers Law Camden and Newark have been in talks to combine into one law school for some time and the process is moving along. They feel that this plan could eventually create the most elite public law school in the northeast.

You can read the entire letter here; we will of course continue to follow the story as it develops since I go to school there and literally hear about this every single day.
