Save Rutgers: Camden County Bar Association Opposes Rowan Rutgers Merger

Opposition just keeps building, Save Jerseyans. Not only are a vast majority of citizens all over the state against the merger of Rutgers Camden and Rowan, but now the Camden County Bar Association, a group with members who have political connections to the South Jersey Democrat Machine, have officially come out against the proposed merger plan. This is almost as big as Donald Norcross’s carefully written rejection of the merger from last week.

The resolution was actually passed on February 22nd, and then signed on March 1st, but this was the first day I was actually able to get my hands on a PDF of the document, which you can view right here.

The Camden County Bar Association lists a number of reasons why it opposes the merger. It patterns with Rutgers Law on numerous educational projects and programs, offers scholarships to law students, and has a number of members, including judges, who have graduated from the Camden school.

The Bar openly states that if the merger were to take place, that it may result in the law school being forced to seek new accreditation, which would take years to obtain and would hurt the school’s admission and prospects far beyond that time. This is a concern of many students and faculty alike, and has been the topic of much discussion. If the school were to change, it is possible that the ABA would place a burden on the new school to prove that it could maintain its prior standard of quality for accreditation purposes. With the amount of faculty who would likely leave due to the plan, it remains to be seen whether it would be possible.

I welcome the Camden County Bar Association to the fight, and on behalf of my fellow law students at Rutgers, thank them for their support.
