POLL: Christie at 55% Approval; Booker Boasts Strongest Name ID of Potential 2013 Challengers

According to Patrick Murray’s latest Monmouth University/Asbury Park Press poll, “Governor Christie earns a 53% approve to 35% disapprove job rating among all Garden State residents.  Among registered voters, his rating stands at 55% approve to 36% disapprove.”

Not too shabby, and it’s consistent with other results we’ve seen. Expect the media to continue to try and bring him back down to earth.

But the best part about this poll? Murray has an eye on 2013 like we do, Save Jerseyans. He asked registered voters about nine potential Democrat gubernatorial candidates; only Newark Mayor Cory Booker stood out as a clear winner in the “name recognition category.” Which isn’t surprising given his media profile. Barbara Buono, on the other hand, is known by pretty much no one except her close friends, family and staff. Rough stuff when you’re up against an internet phenomenon.

Down South, Senate President Steve Sweeney will have to work a bit harder — perhaps consider proposing a REAL bill? — because he lags behind two of his North Jersey rivals…
