Kyrillos Prepares for Tonight’s Menendez Debate While Christie Barnstorms in Washington State

Most of us are still happily focused on last night’s Romdomination at the Denver debate, Save Jerseyans.

But this is a New Jersey political blog, and New Jersey’s two leading Republican candidates (for this cycle and next, respectively) have a very busy day ahead of them.

Just days after predicting a “brand new [presidential] race” following debate #1 (guess who looks like a genius now, MSM?), Governor Chris Christie is spending his entire Thursday campaigning in Washington State before heading to other states with competitive 2012 contests for additional events through Saturday. Today specifically, he’ll campaign with gubernatorial hopeful Rob McKenna at “call centers” in Kennewick and Everett, Washington, and also headline three separate McKenna fundraisers scheduled throughout the day.

Governor Christie has been out west for McKenna before and with very good reason: the latest Rasmussen poll shows McKenna’s Democrat opponent leading by just 1-point. And if he wins, folks, you can except Governor-Elect McKenna and many of the other candidates whom Christie has supported this cycle to return the favor in 2013.

Back on the home front, public polling shows Christie ally state Senator Joe Kyrillos behind by significantly more than 1-point in the New Jersey U.S. Senate race (a fact which, for the record, brings me absolutely no joy). That said, the Republican challenger will nevertheless endeavor to score points against incumbent Bob Menendez in tonight’s debate at Montclair State University and broadcast by NJTV. Go ahead and tune in beginning at 8:00 p.m.

  1. I hope Chris Christie is using vacation time to campaign for GOP hopefuls. Is he on or off the taxpayer time clock while traversing across country shilling for GOP candidates. I thought he was being paid to work for the people of NJ. He has no problems criticizing state employees when it comes to personnel matters. I want him working for all NJ citizens while "on-the-clock". And to be fair this should apply to Democratic politicians as well.
