Obama Won Election By Less Than 334,000 Votes

A Republican bear

What if I told you that Barack Obama was re-elected by less than 334,000 votes?
Sounds incredible, doesn’t it?

After all, Obama won by millions of popular votes, didn’t he?

And he pretty much won the electoral votes handily, yes?

And all that means that the Republican Party is pretty much finished, dead, kaput, right?

Well, you’d be surprised.

Because 333,000+ votes in four states actually handed Obama his victory.

Here’s how it stacks up:

According to still unofficial figures Romney lost New Hampshire by 40,659 votes, Ohio by 103,481, Virginia by 115,910 and Florida by 73,189. That’s 333,239 votes. That’s what made the difference in those four states. And those four states would have given Romney 64 additional electoral votes which added to the 206 he already won would have given him the 270 electoral votes he needed to become president. None of the rest of it matters.

It all came down to 333,239 votes (in four states) out of the more than 124 million votes cast nationwide. That shortfall represents less than .003 of the total vote. Less than three thousandth of the total! Less than one-third of one percent.

That’s how close this election was.

And the four states that I’ve cited are joust four of the states that were thisclose. There are others.

So, don’t let anybody tell you that the Democrats have a mandate or that the Republican Party is dead and finished.

NOTHING could be further from the truth. And the figures prove it.

  1. Whatever….332 to 206. That's an electoral landslide on matter what math you use. Also, 334,000 is certainly a ton more than 537 + 9 votes.

    Thank God.

  2. Kennedy won in 1960 with 303 electoral votes but only 0.2% of the popular vote. Meaningless from a mandate point of view.

  3. Bush won Florida by a 537-vote margin in official results, giving him a 271-267 majority in the Electoral College, and Gore won the popular vote. Bet you weren't cry-babying then?

You can selectively manipulate the poll results all you want, but the fact is that Obama won fair and square.

  4. This maths just proves how stupid the Electoral College is. If that was the case Obama would have still won the Popular vote, I dare say with 2million more votes, I think civil war would have broken out somewhere.

I also agree with Camden, Bush LOST the popular vote in 200, yet Rep were very happy then.
