He “prayed a lot and got lucky” when Hurricane Sandy came along. So said Senate President Steve Sweeney at a Monday press conference ahead of tomorrow’s “State of the State” address.
Is it any mystery that this guy trails Chris Christie by 46-points — 19% to 65% — in the latest FDU poll, Save Jerseyans?
346,000 homes and businesses damaged or destroyed isn’t “lucky” by any sane person’s definition.
Republicans quickly jumped all over Sweeney’s shocking gaffe; Tom Kean, Jr. said “the people of New Jersey are tired of these temper tantrums because they poison the well of cooperation and grind government to a halt.”
He’s more right than he knows. Children throw tantrums, usually because they’re having trouble communicating something and, as a result, frustrations begin to build. New Jersey Democrats are a lot like children who still can’t figure out how to communicate a winning contrast to New Jersey’s uber-popular governor. Contrary to Sweeney’s account, Governor Christie’s approval rating was well above 50% before Hurricane Sandy.
They’ve been trying for four years. They’re still not any closer to an answer.
Sweeney might want to rethink his gubernatorial flirtation until someone on his side comes up with one. This is just getting embarrassing…
Christie rules!!!
