Buono’s Crazy Train

Nuts! Presumptive New Jersey Democrat Gubernatorial Nominee Blames Chris Christie for the Mess That She’s Helped Create for 20 Years

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

A reporter caught up with Barbara Buono during this week’s Chamber of Commerce train ride to Washington, D.C.

She didn’t run away from the journalists like Bob Menendez, Save Jerseyans, but perhaps she should’ve at least thought about it given the quality of her answers…

I’ll try to be kind here:

The primary problem with Buono’s economic argument laying full blame at Governor Christie’s doorstep is the timeline, Save Jerseyans. She entered the General Assembly in January 1994 at age 40 and hasn’t left Trenton since, elevated (strictly speaking) to the State Senate by her constituents in 2002.

Chris Christie was a 32-year old private attorney in January 1994, folks. Buono wasn’t. Her and her far-left colleagues were busy spoiling the Garden State’s once-fertile business environment…

During the heart of Buono’s senior legislator tenure in Trenton, from 2004 to 2008 when New Jersey’s government was under the complete control of McGreevey/Codey/Corzine Democrats, “[m]ore than $70 billion in wealth left New Jersey between 2004 and 2008 as affluent residents moved elsewhere.” Fees and taxes were raised no less than 115 times between 2002 and 2010 and the average property bill rose 70% in tat decade.

New Jersey’s net population growth also slowed to the point where we lost a valuable congressional seat (and electoral vote) in reapportionment coming out of the 2010 census.

God knows there’s still a lot to do; I’ve argued Trenton Republicans could still do more notwithstanding the legislative leadership. But since Chris Christie’s taken office, we finally have (1) substantive public pension reform and (2) a property tax cap that’s led to the slowest rate of property tax growth since 1991.

Where was Babs Buono on either issue over the past two decades? When she was voting to make our lives less affordable in the Garden State, and driving our family members/neighbors/employers across the bridges?

If she thinks that last question isn’t going to be a centerpiece of the Christie campaign over the next 9 months, folks, then she’s officially gone off the rails…
