GOP Team Set for Middlesex Freeholder Board

Retired Judge, NYU Professor and Save Jersey Contributor to Seek County Office On GOP Slate

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

Middlesex CountyMiddlesex County Dems had a rough day, Save Jerseyans.

This morning, the Democrat Mayor of the county’s most populous town, Dave Stahl, defected and announced a campaign to run for Barbara “Buckle Up” Buono’s open state senate seat. And let the shell-shocked Dems spin away! That stings any way you slice it. The optics were great for a Christie-led state party that’s looking to expand their legislative pick up map.

Now here’s the latest news: the Middlesex GOP is expect to put forth what may prove to be their strongest slate at the county level in many cycles. Save Jersey has learned that Republicans Roger Daley, David Rosenthal and Jordan Rickards are running as a slate for three freeholder seats and are favored to gain the county organization’s formal endorsement at Wednesday’s Middlesex County Republican Organization Screening Committee at the Old Bridge Senior Center.

That last name should look familiar to all of you. Jordan Rickards is a frequent Save Jersey contributor and one of the more articulate conservatives under 40 in the Garden State. And you know I’m not an idle flatterer! He’s also a practicing attorney out of Milltown, a graduate of  Washington and Lee School of Law and a former Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor . He previously  ran for Freeholder in 2010 and LD17 State Senate in 2011…

His running mates are accomplished gentlemen in their own right. Vietnam War veteran Roger Daley recently retired as a judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, served two-term as Freeholder back in the early 1990s and, having won re-election, accomplished something which apparently no other Middlesex Republican had pulled off since 1929.

David Rosenthal serves as an adjunct professor at New York University, serves in leadership capacities for various boards and businesses and, in his spare time (I use the term very loosely), serves his country as a reservist in the U.S. Army.

Jordan tells me that his ticket is tired of the Democrats’ unhealthy “monopoly on county government,” and is running with the goal “to restore good government to the people of Middlesex.” Noble and articulate as always! We wish him and the entire slate the best of luck in their fight to Save Middlesex County!

Much stranger things have happened than a Republican upset in Middlesex, Save Jerseyans, particularly after the Democrat Party there had an extremely rough year in the mainstream press. Considering that Governor Christie carried Middlesex by 2.5-points in 2009 WITHOUT his current astronomically-high approval ratings, three GOP pick ups in Central Jersey’s biggest county might be one of many headlines on Election Night 2013.

You heard it here first…
