89 Year Old Bergenfield Mayor Passes Away
By James Beattie | The Save Jersey Blog
Yesterday, Save Jerseyans, I received sad news that the Mayor of my town Bergenfield, NJ, the Hon. Timothy Driscoll, had passed away at age 87.
Though he was ill and would have been 90 had he completed his full term, the news is nevertheless surprising and upsetting. As someone who stepped into the foray of local politics a couple of years ago, he was inevitably once of the first folks on the other side of the aisle whom I got to know. He was known for disagreements both in public and private with members of the Council, as well as residents of the Borough from the council dais, making full use of the gavel. Though we did not always agree on issues and how to approach the public, he was one man who was true to his principles, and his service and tenacity were second to none.
Driscoll served in the US Army during World War II, graduated from Cooper Union in 1956. The Mayor also served on the Bergenfield Board of Education. You can read his full obituary here.
I hope everyone reading Save Jersey today joins me in remembering Mayor Driscoll.
