That’s the word being used by officials to describe their investigation into Thursday’s devastating Seaside boardwalk fire, Save Jerseyans: suspicious.
The fact that it’s being considered “suspicious” coupled with the news that the Ocean County Prosecutor has taken over the investigation does not in of itself verify arson. All it means is that fire investigators believe the signs of a possible arson are present. Those signs include (1) the time of day when the fire started, (2) the lack of injuries, (3) the time of year when it started (after Labor Day), (4) where it began on the boardwalk, and (5) the fact that New Jersey’s annual statewide firefighter convention was underway in Wildwood during the blaze… at least a few hours south in Cape May County…
Meanwhile, Governor Chris Christie is back in Seaside on Saturday to survey the smoldering boardwalk’s ruins and, according to his office, meet with resident victims who lost businesses.
