The day I was told I was losing my health insurance will be forever engraved in my mind, Save Jerseyans.
It was yesterday: Halloween 2013, October 31st. After paying my plan every month on time for as long as I can remember, I was told I was no longer wanted.
I can still remember the days my plan was only $350 a month but since Universal Healthcare was passed it reliably climbed every year until it reached $667/month and that’s for just my coverage.
My termination date is set for February 2014 and the insurance representative said my bill should only rise only a little bit more before that date. Oh wonderful!
When I asked why my insurance was being cancelled, the rep said the Affordable Care Act a.k.a. Obamacare limits the plans they can sell and, consequently, my plan was no longer allowed to be sold. Are you listening, Frank Pallone?
I pressed further and told him I thought President Obama said we can keep our plans only to be told I could talk to an Affordable Health Care representative who could find me a new plan but, due to the current glitches, I might want to call back another day.
To those who do not have health problems losing their insurance might not be life shattering event but for someone with a list of problems such as me, I truly feel abandoned this morning.
This Halloween, my biggest scare was Obamacare and you may be next! Beware.
