LD1 GOP Cheers Albano’s Defeat

LD1“Arrogant” Nelson Albano’s defeat has been a long time in coming, Save Jerseyans.

Cape May County GOP Chair Mike Donohue celebrated what might be the Assembly GOP’s only 2013 win this morning:

“We have been at this for a long time and we have finally broken through.

District One looks like it has produced the only Republican legislative pick up of 2013.  We were outspent by about 6 to 1.  Despite that fact, we managed to capture an Assembly seat for Sam Fiocchi.  Kristine Gabor was in the hunt as well, with only 3pts separating her from the top vote getter.  This was a breakthrough election for us.  Given the am0unt of money that the Democrat Super PAC and Senator Jeff Van Drew threw at us, (about $2.5 million at last count) this was like navigating a typhoon on a surfboard.  At the end, Sam Fiocchi was still standing and headed for the Statehouse.”

Albano had been on a downward trajectory since a controversial 2012 traffic stop which he subsequently lied about in a letter to the state police.

When the dust settled, freshman Democrat Bob Andrzejczak, who replaced Matt Milam earlier in the cycle, ended on top with 27% of the vote. Republican Sam Fiocchi was second with 25%, followed by Republican Kristine Gabor and Nelson Albano at about 24% respectively.

All Republicans are waiting on a final determination in LD38 to see whether Fiocchi is the night’s only legislative silver-lining.
