Claiming that an ongoing House ethics inquiry “played no role at all in his decision to resign,” Save Jerseyans, veteran South Jersey Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ01) announced his pending resignation today at a presser in his Haddon Heights district office.
He will remain on the job until February 18th, after which time a vacancy will occur. Andrews also endorsed state Senator Donald Norcross (D-5) to replace him at the press conference, brother of party boss and media/medical mogul George Norcross III.
Andrews will head the Washington, D.C. office of the mega law firm Dilworth Paxson.
Leading potential GOP candidates include former NFL star Garry Cobb (R-Cherry Hill) our own Susanne LaFrankie (R-Haddonfield), formally a reporter for ABC’s Philly station.
Tuesday’s original story from the Inky:
Andrews, a Democrat in his 24th year in the House, will resign around President’s Day weekend, the source said. He will take over a public affairs job at the firm, according to the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and did not want to name the firm in advance of Andrews’ announcement.
State Sen. Donald Norcross is expected to run to replace Andrews and will be endorsed by the top names in South Jersey Democratic politics later this morning. Norcross is a labor leader — the former head of the South Jersey AFL-CIO — and brother of South Jersey power broker George Norcross. (George Norcross is also majority owner of the company that owns the Inquirer and Philly.com).
The revolving door. He will resign and become a lobbyist.
Resign = I know I did something wrong and I’m trying to get out of it.
Please don’t replace him with Norcross!
Hey Matt, tell Gov. Christie I’ll come back to Jersey to fill the rest of Rob’s term! 🙂
Seriously, I’m guessing that the House Ethics Committee was about to release a scathing report along with a reprimand and Rob got wind of it. They probably told him that if he resigned now, they would drop the matter. In either case, George Norcross has had his eye on that seat for baby brother Don for years.
scammer what else its new
What a joke… Becoming a lobbyist to avoid ethical behavior and likely being replaced by a union crook.
