Christie Can’t Catch a Break

Las_Vegas_at_NightWhen it rains it pours, Save Jerseyans. Like our Garden State “springtime” weather at the moment.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie knows something about that. Over the weekend, Politico says he “apologized” to GOP mega donor Sheldon Adelson after uttering a foreign policy gaffe at the gaming magnate’s exclusive 2016 candidate gathering in Las Vegas, part of the “Adelson Primary” for GOP hopefuls.

“I took a helicopter ride from the occupied territories across and just felt personally how extraordinary that was to understand, the military risk that Israel faces every day,” Christie reportedly told the meeting’s attendees.

The offending phrase is “occupied territories” since many supporters of Israel believe it implies that the Jewish state is blameworthy for its military presence in areas populated by Palestinians.

Whether the Governor actually “apologized,” needed to apologize, or if it was accepted (Politico says it was) isn’t really material. Although for what it’s worth, if I’m Governor Christie, I’m staying the hell away from helicopters. They’ve brought him nothing but trouble.

All that matters is that we’re getting more conclusive evidence that the media doesn’t intend to give the politically-wounded Republican a pass as he seeks to regain his footing in the wake of Bridgegate.

Time to invest in an umbrella if you haven’t already…

  1. He’s gotten a break for 4+ years by the media. About time they started hammering him

  2. All those daily calls to/from GHWB to help him spin the situation won’t matter a jot if Jeb is in the race…unless he’s satisfied with VP – and that will be the end of R hopes for the White House in 2016. The media hasn’t covered it, yet, but the election law violations from the Senate Special Election will play out as follows. The clerks, beginning with Durkin from Essex, are already blaming the Lt. GOV, and she will have three choices. Point back at them – (ineffective at best), accept responsibility and the financial and professional penalties that will follow, or turn and point at her boss. George N won’t cover it, but the fix was in, which is why the two races, (Governor and Senator) were conducted in the fashion of the typical corrupt détente we’ve come to expect from the failure-ship. (I will never call THAT “leadership”). Christie deep-sixed the Gural tapes – this is his payback.
