And now from Burlington County…
The GOP committee convened on Saturday morning to replace departing Freeholder Director Leah Arter who is taking a job with Burlington County College.
Her replacement? Former Freeholder Bruce Gargano, previously considered a candidate for U.S. Congress.
On the federal side, the committee endorsed Garry Cobb (CD1), Frank LoBiondo (CD2) and, as expected, Tom MacArthur (CD3). Nothing happened on U.S. Senate front.
County GOP Chairman Bill Layton trumpeted what he felt was an exceptionally strong slate. “Burlington County has the lowest taxes in the region and spends fewer dollars per person than any other county in the state for a reason – because we elect strong, principled Republicans who, in my opinion, should serve as a model for the Republican Party in the rest of the state and the country,” said Layton.
“We believe in, and deliver, smaller, smarter government that still places a priority on protecting and improving services for veterans, seniors and middle class families who need it most,” added Garganio.
Much is at stake this cycle, notably control of the freeholder board itself. “It’s a record we’re proud of and eager to run on this November,” concurred incumbent Joseph Howarth. “This is a great ticket and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
