89 for Brian Goldberg and 55 for Murray Sabrin, Save Jerseyans, after two ballots at Tuesday night’s convention.
Only Goldberg, Sabrin and Rich Pezzullo were in attendance among the 5-candidate field.
Brian Goldberg has now claimed the county lines in Somerset, Ocean, Atlantic, Cumberland, Mercer, Passaic, and Essex counties, giving him a formidable base of support heading into the June Primary.
Matt – there’s a reason CD2 is sooo big – pieces of no less than 8 counties. Essex mattered – Somerset matters. The rest added together don’t give the R voting population of Monmouth, The good news for Goldberg is that the most populous counties are D country – so the total ballots cast in June will be a footrace, where he certainly has a headstart. There’s a difference between 8 bricks and three cinderblocks.

All 3 candidates did very well, and the first ballot was exceedingly close. I feel bad for the people of Somerset-they had a very tough choice to make. Most of Pezzullo’s votes carried to Goldberg, and he won the day.
Ocean and Atlantic matter quite a bit, too, especially the former considering its size, track record, and the reality of a competitive primary. Ocean will be turning out voters in droves which could make the difference for Goldberg. We shall see…
