Poll: Your Choice for #NJSen GOP

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

Senate

The next several days could prove decisive in the GOP #NJSen primary race.

Businessman Brian Goldberg appears to be on a roll with decisive wins in the key county Republican county of Ocean and battleground Cumberland, a battleground where any statewide GOP candidate needs to close the gap if they’re going to have a prayer in the general.

With that being said, Save Jerseyans, his in-hand county line total as of Friday afternoon is 4 out of 21. Mercer will decide tonight, followed by Monmouth (where Rich Pezzullo snatched a key endorsement) and Middlesex (where Sabrin almost won the screening) on Saturday, and then Atlantic on Monday, Somerset (Tuesday), and Hunterdon (next Thursday). A lot can still happen.

With whom do you stand? As of today? Who is YOUR preference to take on Cory Booker in November? Vote in our exclusive online poll below the fold, and share your rationale in the comments section…

  1. The choice of a Senate candidate is a tough one. After hearing five of the candidates briefly speak a few weeks ago, I am leaning toward Rich Pezzullo. I also really like Brian Goldberg and his positive message.

  2. Murray Sabrin for U.S. Senate!

Murray is the only candidate with an actual platform as opposed to rehashed cliches and warmed over rhetoric. We need someone in Washington, D.C. who understands the issues, how we got in the mess we’re in and how we can REALISTICALLY and REASONABLY get out of it.

On the campaign trail, when people actually have the chance to hear Murray, unlike some recent events where he was prevented from speaking, they flock to sign his nominating petition and pledge their support at conventions and in the coming primary. Many even say they’ve switched their support to Murray from another candidate after hiring his energetic presentation.

New Jersey needs a Senator like Murray, not a hobby politico untested in the fray and unaware of the issues.

BTW…I am working on Murray’s campaign because I trust him as a man of his word. Wouldn’t it be nice and rare in Jersey to be able to vote for someone like that?

  3. I liked Goldberg til he went negative, Bell and Sabrin are washed up and Turkavage is altogether unviable (though he’d be my choice if he were a little better funded and more organized.) I’m going with Pezzullo on this one.

  4. I wonder who that Other voter wants, it’s a little late to start circulating petitions for any potential candidates..

  5. Is there any chance to see actual positions of Murray Sabrin on key issues? Generously quoting Bastiat and Rockwell is good for winning online polls, as Dr. Paul proved numerous times, but one doesn’t win a NJ election on libertarian votes alone.

  6. Matt: if you saw the politicker poll, the “none” option very nearly won, so probably a good decision.

  7. I imagine a “Not Cory Booker” option would win out here- most party members couldn’t care less who they nominate as long as they beat Cory Booker.

  8. To me, Rich is all about shoving the Party message down other people’s throats. Brian realizes we don’t need to make the message louder, instead, we need more people presenting the message (minorities, young people, etc.). He’s a business man that knows that every product (even ideas), need a great marketing plan. And he’s got it.

  9. You can get good thumbnails on many of his policy positions by going to his website, MurraySabrin2014.com.

    Some key points:

Murray won’t support a federal budget that increases spending one year to the next.

He supports closing our borders because he sees that as a major national security threat. Who knows who’s coming in with the means and ability to create havoc and death?

He doesn’t support jumping into foreign squabbles, especially when the countries most closely associated with it won’t lift a finger as in Crimea, Russia, Ukraine and Europe.

He will serve ONLY two terms.

Murray supports working with other like-minded senators to develop a process to reduce government spending to where it comports with the enumerated powers of the federal government as set out in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.

Murray was the only candidate to clearly articulate the true National Debt of the United States as $220 TRILLION, not the $17.5 trillion we’re told. The larger number represents unfunded entitlement liabilities of the federal government that have been accrued by not paid. Unlike one of his opponents who advocates a tax hike to address them, Murray knows that a problem that took decades to develope will also take decades to resolve. Before Murray was talking about this specific issue, his primary opponents were silent. Now they’re parroting his ideas and claiming them as their own.

Murray wants to end crony capitalism since its a form of welfare that makes millionaires and billionaires multi-millionaires and multi-billionaires. Your tax dollars shouldn’t be redistributed to pad Warren Buffett’s wallet.

He is pro-life and VERY pro-Second Amendment.

Murray wants to abolish Obamacare and return control of healthcare decisions to the lowest level possible, that of patient and doctor. We have healthcare-system problems because we have the government’s finger in the healthcare pie mucking it up. Allow free-market solutions — sell insurance across state lines, more price shopping by consumers and competition among providers, etc. — to work instead of some HHS bureaucrat rigidly structuring everything. Allow local and state experimentation — what works in Hoboken may not apply in Hoquiam, Wash. and vice versa (I know Hoquiam well).

Alone among the candidates, Murray is talking about the erosion and probable eventual elimination of your Fourth Amendment rights to be secure against unreasonable search and seizure by the NSA, FBI, EPA, CIA, DoJ and even the National Park Service! He’s the foremost advocate on behalf of your personal liberty and freedom in the race.

    That a good start?

  10. After hearing all of them speak and reading about them… then actually meeting Pezzullo in person, he brings balance to the party. I’m an anti establishment conservative who is fed up with the pandering R’s that are in office in this state. That being said, I also recognize that to unseat Booker in this Blue state, all R’s must be engaged. Too conservative or too establishmemt will alientate the core base on both sides and the incredibly necessary Independent votes required to get this done. Rich satisfies my hardcore conservative nature while not scaring away more moderate R’s. He’s well spoken, smart as hell and appears to be sincere. He’s the obvious choice in my book to bridge the gap between the Hatfield and McCoy Republican infighting. After all, the main objective here is to unseat Booker who should have never won it in the first place.

  11. Of course, it doesn’t matter who the nominee is if we can’t convince dead people in Essex county to stay nj the grave and stop voting…

  12. Goldberg inherited his daddy’s company. The NRSC won’t be helping him out, and once hr gets to the general and can’t win county lines he’ll be dead lines. He’s done alright so far in becoming a politician, but his inexperience will eventually destroy him. We just have to hope it happens before were stuck with him as our nominee.

  13. Murray is the only candidate to run for Governor and twice for Senator losing every time. He’s all washed up, nothing more than political dogmeat. His credibility as a serious candidate reminds me of something I ran over accidentally with my car and left on the side of the road. Serious Republicans want nothing to do with him for fear he’ll contaminate the rest of the GOP ticket. He has a noxious paper trail that goes back three decades with enough ammunition for Democrats to use not only against Sabrin but against other Republicans who have to run on the same ticket.

Btw, does Murray still collect the government paycheck and government benefits he gets for teaching at a government college while he’s spending all this time on the campaign trail?

  14. Brian Goldberg is the most “positive” candidate I’ve ever known. I suppose pointing out your differences with other candidates could be considered negative, but barely.
