The Bridgegate Select Oversight Committee (otherwise known as the “SCI”) now has no reason to exist.
Steve Sweeney’s words. Not mine, Save Jerseyans.
That’s because Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson ruled on Wednesday afternoon that neither Bill Stepien nor Bridget Kelly can be compelled to appear before the legislative investigative committee.
“For the reasons set forth in this opinion, plaintiff’s applications for judgments declaring that defendants have failed, without justification, to produce documents in accordance with the subpoenas are denied, as are plaintiff’s requests for injunctive relief ordering defendants to comply with the subpoenas,” wrote Assignment Judge Mary C. Jacobson in her opinion.
“Plaintiff’s complaints in both actions are dismissed.”
Both Bridgegate targets have relied on their 4th and 5th Amendment rights to avoid complying with the committee. The Judge’s opinion represents a potentially fatal blow to legislative Democrats’ attempts to set up a show trial on their turf independent of the U.S. Attorney’s efforts.
I weep for them…
Here links to the relevant court documents if you’d like to read them for yourselves:
Does the judge have tenure?
How?
Judge Jacobson never saw a verdict she couldn’t thwart procedurally to benefit her benefactors. I have no respect for her and her 18$ black polyester robe at all.
An inglorious end to an inglorious scandal.
Nothing to celebrate. All it means is that as we get closer to 2016 Kelly, Stepien and Wildstein can demand alot more money from book publishers to tell their side of the story and paint themselves as the “victims” while putting all the blame on their former boss. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush are salivating.
