Christie: “War On Drugs Has Failed”

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

This isn’t the first time that Chris Christie declared defeat in the so-called War on Drugs, Save Jerseyans, saying something very similar back in 2012 at the Brookings Institution. Since that time, Governor Christie has signed a controversial “Good Samaritan” law immunizing people reporting overdoses from prosecution for possession and pushed for sentencing reforms but refused to consider decriminalization of pot for non-medicinal purposes.

Next on the list? Boosting a pilot program in Monmouth and Ocean counties whereby local law enforcement will be armed with a drug capable of saving the lives of heroin overdosers, a problem that’s reaching epidemic levels in the Garden State:

  1. CC has not been consistent. Since the war on drugs has been a failure it is time to legalize marijuana. The ban does more harm than marijuana itself does. It wastes police resources. It makes if very hard for medical users to obtain marijuana. The ban keeps profits high for illegal dealers so finances and encourages gang violence.

  2. Well, if you legalize pot then you legalize guns. If you cant beat them, then join them. At least we all get what we want.

  3. When something as stupid as War on Drugs goes on for a long time, always ask yourself who benefits from it. Criminal forfeiture is the main, and probably the only, reason why police will never give it up – and no governor of no party has the balls to alienate unionized cops.
