Pallone has less than $1 million in campaign cash

Pallone town hallCongressman Frank Pallone’s (NJ-6, Monmouth and Middlesex) once formidable campaign war chest of roughly $4 million is down to less than $1 million according his latest report to the Federal Election Commission.

New Jersey’s senior Democratic congressman, Pallone spent $3,778,155 in the Special U.S. Senate Primary last summer in his bid to replace the late Senator Frank Lautenberg. He lost that primary to then Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

Pallone reported $938,472 cash on hand in his congressional campaign account as of March 31, 2014.  He raised $200,449.64 in the first quarter of this year and disbursed #338,450.67.  $60, 645 remains in his senate campaign account.

The $938,472 that Pallone reports on hand may be inflated by illegal contributions. A cursory examination of his most recent quarterly report reveals $14,200 in contributions from individuals during the current election cycle that exceed the legal limit of $2600 per election.

  1. Four Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate running against one of the most well supported incumbent had less than 100 grand in total funds – and you expect a mere Congressional GOP candidate to beat a cool mil? Wake up and smell the coffee, Matt.

  2. I met Anthony Wilkinson, and I think he has a serious shot at beating King Pallone – he’s an exciting candidate. He’s not rich, but he’s enthusiastic and he has a way of exciting the people around him. He might not be able to win – the state GOP’s resources are probably all going to go to defending NJ-3 and possibly NJ-2 and putting up a fight in NJ-12 if the Democratic primary gets too bruising. They might even give a few nickels to the senate nominee (though I doubt it.) But Wilkinson won’t need it to keep Pallone on his toes – and with a little luck (hearing this guy’s background in charity work, he probably has a ton of good karma going his way) he might even unseat His Liberalness.

  3. Jim, I swear I’d max out my contribution to a good candidate running against Phallone if it made a shadow of a difference, but it will not. Not only the slimy douchebag has enough major corporations lining up to support him to make a Californian liberal envious, he enjoys a monstrous registration advantage and, were some self-financed GOP candidate to jump into the race, near-boundless access to DNC cash. You can safely write CD-6 off until Satan recalls Phallone back home, and likely even thereafter.

  4. I think nationwide GOP momentum might build high enough to move it in to the column of possibility – a registration advantage doesn’t count for much when Dems don’t show up to the polls.

  5. What momentum? If I hear about amnesty, aka “comprehensive immigration reform”, from Boehner’s mouth just one more time, I’ll write in Cthulhu in every ballot. And ?I’m sure I won’t be alone. Plus, NJ Democrats don’t have to really show up at voting time – that’s what absentee ballot is for, no matter who fills it.

  6. Conservatives among you might want to know that Leonard Marshall, former chair of the New Jersey Conservative Party, which he co-founded with Tom Bloomquist, is on the ballot for CD 6 this Fall. Now you DO have a choice you can stand behind. Max, I am sure Len would be glad to cash your check.

  7. I will stand behind a SERIOUS candidate, not a forgotten nobody who doesn’t show up in Google search, represents a freshly-baked party that has “Democrat” is its name, and has a snowball’s chance in Hell to match Phallone’s fundraising. Once you locate such candidate, I will be happy to learn of, vote for, and support him or her.
