News12 New Jersey has effectively fired reporter Sean Bergin for telling the truth.
In a report about Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago’s murder, Bergin went off script and closed the segment by saying, “The underlying cause of all of this, of course: Young black men growing up without fathers. Unfortunately, no one in the news media has the courage to touch that subject.”
News12 executives responded by proving Bergin’s point about the spineless media. They suspended him and then offered him a one day a week job, for $300 per week, covering fluff like broken fire hydrants or other inane subjects. They covered their asses by saying the discipline was for breaking company policy. Bergin turned them down and quit.
He was expressing an opinion. Opinions go on the editorial page. But let’s say this was an editorial. You say he expressed the truth.

Please provide done sort of evidence that documents this as truth as opposed to merely opinion
I just don’t see why what he said is a controversial statement . It’s common sense. The situation has nothing to do with race and his statement is true for urban, suburban, rural or any other place where people live. No family unit = reduced morals and values= higher crime.
Well the liberal jargon is “socioeconomic difficulties” and this is only one aspect of that. Too narrow of a description is grounds for termination.
The issue as I understand is that he poorly stated that the cause was something to the effect of “fatherless Black boys.” I actually believe he was not intending to state that but was disputing the claim made by the murderer’s wife that that was the justification for these societal ills and folks who do this stuff should not be held accountable. But TBH I dd not listen tot he report or the rebuttal.
Maybe they got upset because someone put a kink in their regurgitation news cycle.
I don’t think he poorly stated anything @Lisa.
Opinions are not news. They are opinions.
Tell that to Brian Williams
Columbine, what socio-economic status is that community? Sandy Hook….etc…
Again, Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, etc…where are these places and are the “kids there” poor and without fathers?
