Remember when we counted the Christie “octopus” tentacles together, Save Jerseyans?

Here’s an update: according to a reliable Save Jersey source in-the-know, NJ GOP Deputy Executive Director Peter Sheridan will take over as deputy campaign manager for New Hampshire GOP gubernatorial hopeful Walt Havenstein in the coming weeks.

A longtime New Jersey political hand and former Bush-Cheney Victory Director for Pennsylvania in 2004, Sheridan’s move is undoubtedly intended to boost both one of Governor Christie’s RGA priorities (he’s been up there a lot recently) and, again, his 2016 operative deployment battle plan.

Sheridan is a talented guy with a tough job ahead of him. Haverstein, a businessman, is running almost 20-points behind the incumbent Democrat Maggie Hassan in the RCP average. He’ll work closely with Matt Mowers, another member of the Christie ’09 farm team, who is the state GOP’s executive director.

UPDATE: A quick addendum… despite the fact that Governor Christie is actively campaigning for Havenstein on behalf of the RGA, the NH state party is maintaining public neutrality in the primary scheduled for Tuesday September 9th. It’s a point they’d like to stress. “The New Hampshire GOP has not and will not endorse any candidate for governor during the primary election campaign season,” NH GOP spokesperson Lauren Zelt told me in an email after this story was originally posted. “We have a talented field of candidates, we look forward to working with our Republican nominee to replace Governor Maggie Hassan this fall.” FYI.
