This one might be close to over, Save Jerseyans. At least as far as the DCCC is concerned.

The Monmouth Polling Institute, New Jersey’s most accurate 2013 public political survey outfit, found Tom MacArthur (R) leading Aimee Belgard (D) by 10-points in its first NJ-03 general election polling results released Tuesday.

51% of likely voters backed the former Randolph Township mayor; 41% support the Burlington County Freeholder and another 2% aren’t committed.

Monmouth’s findings come on the heels of news suggesting that national Democrats are increasingly adopting a pessimistic view of Belgard’s chances.

Beneath the surface, polling director Patrick Murray noted that Belgard’s ‘equal pay‘ attacks “may be fueling the gender gap in this race, but it’s not enough to overcome Belgard’s deficit on other issues,” e.g., voters favored MacArthur as the candidate more likely to help Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst by a 14-point margin.

The NRCC was quick to pounce.

“Aimee Belgard’s campaign has been a disaster since day one, but Nancy Pelosi and her campaign team in Washington have made things even worse by running a smear campaign against Tom MacArthur that has completely backfired,” said NRCC spokesman Ian Prior. “With Belgard down 10 points with three weeks until the election, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see national Democrats cut and run after making a thorough mess of things.”

No argument here.

The Monmouth University Poll telephone survey took place between October 9th and 13th with 423 likely NJ-03 voters. Its sample has a margin of error of +/- 4.8 percent.

  1. Sure hope that wasn’t the “Central Research” survey that has called this NJ-11 voter three times with a NJ-3 poll.
