Dancer introducing fetal homicide bill

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

38 states recognize unborn children as victims of the intentional homicides.

New Jersey is one of the other 12. Go figure, right? A Republican legislator from Ocean County wants to change that.

If passed and signed into law, the “Motherhood Violence Act” (A-3895) sponsored by Assemblyman Ron Dancer (R-Ocean, Burlington, Monmouth and Middlesex), a New Jersey defendant could be charged with a first degree crime, fetal homicide, punishable by 20 years in prison without parole eligibility, in the event that he or she purposely kills or seriously injures a pregnant woman and, in so doing, causes the death of her baby.

“New Jersey is one of only 12 states where the murder of a pregnant woman is charged as a single homicide, and the taking of her unborn child’s life does not count as a crime,” said Dancer in a release from the Assembly GOP office. “This is a matter of justice and ensures that motherhood is valued and protected under the laws of our state. There are two victims when a pregnant mother is attacked. The killer of a pregnant woman and her unborn child should not be charged with one count of murder, but two.”

Dancer’s bill closely mirrors the 10-year old federal “Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004,” a/k/a the “Laci and Conner’s Law” named after the late Laci Peterson whose murder in her 8th month of pregnancy perpetrated by her husband made national headlines.

We wholeheartedly support Asm. Dancer on this one, Save Jerseyans, but we’re realistic about its chances of success in a wildly pro-abortion legislature that is actively promoting creepy euthanasia legislation at present. Let’s give it our best… and find out how “pro-woman” these Democrats really are…

  1. Oh Boy, Bobbie Sue will go nuts about this and start screaming “war on women” again. I say, go for it. If only for that.
