The Christie Octopus is still extensive, Save Jerseyans, and you can’t read too much into one personnel story, but there are obvious risks to idling a presidential bid while Bridgegate sorts itself out (if that’s what is indeed happening): talent gets anxious.
Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney have the money and personal networks to poach Chris Christie’s talent pool notwithstanding Governor Christie’s own promising fundraising news from Monday.
CNN is reporting Thursday afternoon that former Christie spokesman Colin Reed has joined team Romney on a “volunteer basis.”
“I got my start working for Mitt Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts and I’m excited to be working with him again,” Reed, who worked for Romney in 2008 and later Scott Brown, reportedly told the cable network. “He’s a great leader for our party, and he cares deeply about the future of America.”
Am I the only one humming the Game of Thrones theme song? Now, for all I know, Reed wasn’t on the Christie campaign shortlist for staff. I haven’t heard of a falling out; maybe he got permission to volunteer? Or someone is angry over it. Who knows. Palace intrigue is a pointless object of speculation. What we do know: this relationship (Chris and Mitt) has been complicated for some time. We’ll see how complicated things get in the days and weeks to come…
