Mayor Richard DiFolco (R-Mt. Holly) is out for 2015, Save Jerseyans, approximately one month after the Burlington County GOP endorsed his candidacy for freeholder.
“When I was elected by the people of Mount Holly in 2012 to serve as Mayor, I swore an oath to spend the next four years making our community a safer, more economically vibrant and affordable place in which to live. We’re off to a good start, but there is more work to be done,” Mayor DiFolco said in a statement distributed by Republican super-consultant and spokesman Chris Russell. “That’s why, despite earning the endorsement of the Burlington County Republican Committee last week to run for Freeholder this year, I have decided to turn down that opportunity and commit myself to serving out my full-term in Mount Holly. This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one. I want to thank Chairman Bill Layton and the Burlington County GOP for their understanding, encouragement and support. I look forward to continuing to play a big role in the party’s future in the years to come.”
No word yet on a replacement. DiFolco’s departure leaves former GOP operative and current ELEC 825 leader Katie Gibbs alone on the ticket for the moment. Burlington Republicans are aiming to knock out two Democrats in November, one of which is former congressional candidate Aimee Belgard, and consolidate control of the freeholder board with a 5-0 majority.
Looks like Belgard gets a free ride. Thanks alot DiFolco!
