Kean: Obama “sets back” Camden students

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

The New Jersey Republican establishment was relatively silent during yesterday’s Obama visit to Camden, Save Jersey, partly due to the constraints of him having come to celebrate a Republican Governor’s policing initiative.

There was one exception.

Tom Kean Jr.“President Obama is missing a giant piece of the puzzle to fully solving the deeply rooted issues impacting the city of Camden,” explained Senate GOP Leader Tom Kean, Jr. via his Facebook page. “If we really want to transform the city, we need Democrat leadership to get on board with Opportunity Scholarship programs. Camden’s children are the future of the city and they all deserve the opportunity for a good education. Kids need to stay in school and graduate prepared to take on the next steps in their lives. When President Obama introduces a budget that cuts funding for an Opportunity Scholarship program, it sets back a lot of the hard work people around the country are doing to increase children’s access to high quality education.”

Yup! Policing is only part of the puzzle; we need to provide opportunity for change, in the form of a better education, if we’re genuinely interested in transforming the culture of our afflicted urban centers.

Senator Kean has pushed the Opportunity Scholarship Act in the face of Democrat/NJEA opposition for years now; what can we expect from a hypocritical Democrat, NEA-backed president who killed vouchers for D.C. school kids while simultaneously sending his own children to an expensive D.C. private school? That’s a special kind of cold…
