Menendez corruption trial postponed until… next fall?

Possibly, Save Jerseyans.

MenendezDuring a Thursday hearing, U.S. District Judge William Walls told the assembled parties and attorneys that an anticipated 3rd Circuit appeal of his forthcoming ruling on motions filed by co-defendants Bob Menendez and Salomon Melgen could push the trial date into spring 2016 or even fall 2016.

His opinion on the motions seeking dismissal of the multi-count indictment is expected to drop next week. Menendez’s corruption trial date in this procedurally-contentious case was preliminarily on track for mid-October.

At issue on appeal would be a constitutional question among other items; specifically, whether the Justice Department was barred by the U.S. Constitution from relying upon Menendez’s official actions as evidence.
