Congressman Tom MacArthur (R, NJ-03) and a bipartisan coalition of House members have joined the growing chorus calling for a freeze to the Obama Administration’s resettlement program from Syria and Iraq.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the entire nation of France,” said Congressman MacArthur in a statement. “We must remain united in combating these attacks, and the many forms they have taken, which have demonstrated the imminent threat ISIS poses to our country, our allies and our way of life. Until we can say with certainty that the individuals trying to enter our nation are refugees and not terrorists, we must freeze any incoming applications from Syria and Iraq. The safety and security of New Jersey families must come first.”
MacArthur and his coalition are asking the Department of Homeland Security to provide the House and Senate Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees with all information relied upon to admit each asylum seeker.
On Tuesday, Chris Christie and MacArthur’s GOP colleague Leonard Lance (R, NJ-07) issued similar rejections of the White House’s program.
