Christie taps Cape May’s Donohue for Superior Court

By The Staff | The Save Jersey Blog

christiedonohueVeteran Cape May County Republican Chairman Michael Donohue (R-Dennis Township) is headed to the bench, Save Jerseyans.

On Monday, Donohue was nominated by Governor Chris Christie a position on New Jersey’s Superior Court. A prominent local attorney and former LD1 Assembly candidate, Donohue has led the Cape GOP in June 2010 and his elevation to the trial-level court of the state judiciary marks the end of an era in South Jersey politics. Donohue’s nomination is subject to the advice and consent of the Democrat-controlled State Senate but it reportedly has the full support of his political nemesis, Democrat state Senator Jeff Van Drew, who will be more than happy to see the hard-charging Donohue gone from the political scene.

Also nominated to the bench: Aimee Belgard, the former NJ-01 Democrat candidate and outgoing Burlington County freeholder vanquished in this November’s general election. Belgard’s departure removes the depleted Burlington Democrat bench’s strongest name ID’d candidate.
