More than a few people were amazed that President Obama did what even Jimmy Carter never would’ve dared, Save Jerseyans: ignore a new Iranian hostage crisis in his State of the Union address.

I guess it didn’t fit the narrative?

“…I was troubled by only one fleeting mention of the nuclear deal with Iran and nothing about the U.S. Navy vessels and their crews that are being held captive by Iran,” said Rep. Scott Garrett (R-5) in a post-speech statement. “This deal is fundamentally flawed and Iran cannot be left on a path to obtain nuclear capabilities in a few short years.”

Obama’s fleeting mention to Iran was strangely celebratory:

That’s why we built a global coalition, with sanctions and principled diplomacy, to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran. As we speak, Iran has rolled back its nuclear program, shipped out its uranium stockpile, and the world has avoided another war.”

You’d never know U.S. sailors were being held captive.

  1. Sounds like by the time POTUS gave the SOTU speech they had assurances the sailors would be released in the morning. Sometimes its better to say nothing and try to resolve peacefully especially when in this case the US ships were in Iranian waters (even if by accident).
