Veteran GOP Sheriff Ed Rochford will get a primary challenge this June, Save Jerseyans.

“I am entering the race to utilize my 33-plus years of law enforcement and security experience to usher in a more modern, professional and fiscally responsible approach to the Sheriff ’s Office, and to help make Morris County an even more safe and secure place to live, work and retire,” explained Boonton-based candidate Jim Gannon in a letter sent to the Morris GOP’s county committee announcing his intention to run.

You can read Gannon’s committee letter here. In Morris, all Republican primaries are open and therefore a little less predictable than what you’d see in other solidly-red counties.

Gannon’s 33-year career includes time as a patrol Officer in Boonton and Boonton Township, Deputy Chief of
Investigations at the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, membership on the FBI’s Joint Terrorism task force and, finally, as Global Head of Security Risk at Novartis.

A formal campaign launch is scheduled for Monday, February 8th at 7:00 p.m. at Maxfield’s on Main in Boonton.
