It wasn’t a close call tonight in Hackensack.

Despite failing to win the support of Bergen County’s GOP Chairman Bob Yudin, real estate tycoon turned reality star Donald Trump (332) carried the BCRO’s nomination convention on Monday night by an approximate 3-to-1 margin with Ohio’s John Kasich (116) finishing a distant second. Ted Cruz garnered just 77 votes.

Trump has now won the backing of three New Jersey Republican county parties: Mercer, Atlantic and Bergen.

On the freeholder front, Bergen Freeholder incumbent Maura DeNicola, former Freeholder John Driscoll and Closter Councilman Bob DiDio easily won the organization’s official support for three ballots slots to compete for the Democrat-controlled board.
