Bubba, taking on BLM, finally sounding a little bit like his old self

The Bill Clinton who famously declared “the era of big Government is over” ahead of his 1996 reelection big hasn’t talked like that in a long, looooong time, Save Jerseyans. He’s moved to the Left as the Democrat Party has drifted to leftward, all in what could ultimately prove a vain attempt to maintain his family’s position of power in American politics.

Was Slick Willy’s clash with ‘Black Lives Matter’ protesters across the Delaware in Philadelphia this week part of that power struggle? Political calculation, having realized Team Hilldawg can’t out-looney Bernie? A sensitive aging man defending against an attack on his legacy? Or genuine disgust with one of American politics’ more twisted recent outgrowths? Maybe a little bit of everything. I’m in a generous mood. It’s Friday.

Clinton was a hippie in college, true, but he was always at his best when he tried to lay claim to the center (largely after Newt kicked his but in ’94). The former Governor of Arkansas and friend of the Bushes trying to sound like the radical he hasn’t been in decades? It never sounded quite right. That disconnect is probably part of the Clinton’s problem this time around. There’s nothing authentic about the way they’ve been behaving.
