Law pins underdog machine challenge’s hopes on robust #NJPrimary Day turnout

The legendary South Jersey Political Machine built and led by his opponent’s brother, George Norcross III, is beating the pavement today to stop the insurgent congressional campaign of 20-something Democrat Alex Law in NJ-01.

According to PolitickerNJ, the campaign of Donald Norcross won the absentee ballot battle 5,538 to 1,732, 76% to 24%. That nearly 4,000-vote deficit won’t be easy to overcome on Election Day.

That hasn’t stopped Law and his shoestring effort from seeing promising signs in relatively robust primary day traffic at many Camden County voting stations.

“I am getting reports of much higher than usual turnout all across the district,” Law reported to his Facebook backers on Tuesday afternoon. “This combined with the highest ever amount of vote by mail ballots in a primary for this district could make this the biggest primary election turnout in the history of the district.”

For outside observers, the battle between Norcross and Law is as much a test of the Machine’s power heading into the 2017 gubernatorial cycle as it is, to a large degree, a mirror of the Democrat Party’s national struggle between the Hillary Clinton establishment and the hard-left populist faction led by Bernie Sanders.
