The causation is clear, Save Jerseyans.
When bad actors who insist only some “lives matter” are treated seriously and used for selfish ends by politicians and the media? The end result is predictably tragic. It was only a matter of time until the break down.
All lives MUST be treated like they matter or pretty soon you’ll wake up in a world where none do.
That’s how cultural degradation works; what’s more, self-interested political opportunism poisons the well and constructive dialogue becomes impossible. The reasonable voices are drowned out by the ratings whores. I complain about it all of the time on The Save Jersey Blog‘s message boards.
What happened last night in Dallas is a new and horrific low.
It also needs to be a wake-up call.
This morning, we need think before we tweet.
Reevaluate what we ‘think’ we know.
Pray for wisdom.
Comfort those who are hurting.
Be human, which implies acting a little kinder and more understanding (read: patient!) when interacting with the folks who bug you.
And for God’s sake, please quit glorifying people whose behavior and message don’t warrant glorification!
Most importantly, ask the Almighty to heal this land and help us supplant this country’s merchants of division with Lincoln-esque leaders who can lead us through the storm.
That’s what matters right now.
