Christina Genovese Renna is back in the news after a 2-year absence, Save Jerseyans.

The renewed controversy surrounding the late 2013 Fort Lee lane closures stems from the release of a text exchange between Renna, Christie’s then-director of intergovernmental affairs, and Peter Sheridan, a staffer on Christie’s gubernatorial re-election campaign, in a filing filed by Bill Baroni’s lawyers for the upcoming Bridgegate federal criminal trial.

In the December 2013 exchange, Renna reacted to Chris Christie’s now-infamous press conference in which he denied any wrongdoing by members of his administration with an unambiguously critical assessment.

“Are you listening?,” Renna reportedly texted. “He just flat out lied about senior staff and Stepien not being involved.”

Responding to another aid, Renna replied, “Yes. But he lied. And if e-mails are found with the subpoena or ccfg e-mails are uncovered in discovery if it comes to that it could be bad.”

“CCFG” refers to Chris Christie For Governor.

Renna is left the Administration shortly after the Bridgegate scandal broke; she subsequently gave emotional testimony before the legislature’s investigatory panel in May of that year.
