DiGaetano-led Bergen GOP publicly opposes gas tax hike

gas-pumpHACKENSACK, N.J. — Chairman Paul DiGaetano presided over his first meeting as chair last night in Hackensack to an enthusiastic crowd ready to go to work on electing Republicans this fall.

While the meeting contained your usual party business discussions and banter, the BCRO also made some news by officially going on the record as opposed to the gas tax.

Bergenfield Committeeman Fred Salburg proposed that the BCRO officially take a stand on the gas tax during the open comment portion of the meeting, saying the proposal to raise it was hurting working people like him.

Salberg’s proposal was met with universal support and applause; the chairman even remarked that opposition to a gas tax hike appeared to be unanimous.

State Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39), who was already on record as opposed to the tax increase, suggested that passing such a resolution was imperative to show that the party was taking a stand for the people of Bergen County.

Cardinale’s district mate Assemblyman Bob Auth, another ardent opponent of the bill, echoed the Senator sentiments, adding that the current tax a 150% increase was unacceptable. Both legislators vowed to do all they could to fight the legislation.

The motion passed without a single dissenting vote leaving the new BCRO united in firm opposition to any gas tax increase and siding with New Jersey families.

Attempts to replenish the N.J. Transportation Trust Fund stalled in Trenton over the summer months when the various players failed to agree on a plan.
