STUDY: N.J. is America’s 3rd most federally independent state

TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey gets only $0.33 back for every $1 its residents and businesses send to Washington, D.C. on an annual basis. By comparison, North Carolina gets $1.55 back and Mississippi recoups $4.38.

As if the situation wasn’t more pronounced already, WalletHub analyzed the data nation-wide and, on Tuesday, released its study showing that New Jersey is also the country’s 3rd least dependent state on the federal government.

WalletHub analyzed variables including federal contracts, IRS collections, grants, and financial assistance in arriving at its rankings.

Something which could begin to change the situation and get some dollars heading back in the Garden State’s direction — tackling New Jersey’s staggering state and local tax (SALT) burden — continues to go unaddressed by Trenton’s legislative majority.
