Christie Enters Debt Limit Fray; Says Obama “Has Spoken in Platitudes” Only

Governor Christie appeared yesterday at the Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) to announce a major investment project. Press members in attendance had their minds stuck on national topics; the Governor obliged them by holding his recent legislative successes out as demonstrative of his belief that “there is no substitute for executive leadership” in the public arena.

I think The Washington Examiner’s Wednesday editorial said it best, Save Jerseyans:

“If Obama truly was serious about solving our nation’s debt crisis he would have released a serious plan months ago. Instead, he not only passed the buck to a debt commission that he created, he then cynically dismissed their work when they announced a solution. Obama then introduced a budget so fanciful that the Senate rejected it 97-0. “

And, in case you’ve forgotten, that’s a Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate. But since when did facts matter? This is the same Democrat Party whose House leader, Nancy Pelosi, simultaneously championed the largest entitlement in nearly 80 years and failed to pass a budget while still lecturing others on the importance of fiscal discipline. No small feat.

I guess the overarching point is that restoring seriousness in Washington is a lost cause until the Senate and Executive Mansion are back in adult hands… like those of a Chris Christie-type figure. Just not literally Chris Christie… because he’s not running. Right?
