Can New Jersey Be Saved?

(National Review Online)  Jim Geraghty writes the Campaign Spot for National Review Online

And that's the backdrop to so much of this year's governor's race. According to Republican Chris Christie, his supporters often tell him, "If you don't win, I'm moving out." A Christie web video about big-name Democrats who rush into New Jersey to tout Jon Corzine, then go back to their homes somewhere else, used Queen's "Save Me" as the theme. A National Federation of Independent Businesses video, popping up on political sites like PolitickerNJ, used the slogan, "Save New Jersey's Jobs"; a popular blog covering state politics is titled Save Jersey. Among the backers of both Christie and independent Chris Daggett, there's a sense that this year's election is the last chance to turn things around before they become unfixable.

BREAKING: New Jersey Dems Paying for Independent Candidate’s RoboCalls

by Capitol Confidential

New Jersey political blogs MoreMonmouthMusings and Save Jersey have been all over this story, which we mentioned last night. The first clue was that the number used to make the robocalls had also been used for robocalls for Maryland Democrat Governor candidate Martin O’Malley in 2006. Of course, the Daggett campaign could have just hired a Democrat firm to make the calls, Today, however, we have definitive proof that the New Jersey Democratic State Committee is paying for ads attacking GOP candidate Chris Christie and promoting Independent candidate Chris Daggett.

Christie listens to students

Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie, at a campaign stop yesterday at The College of New Jersey, said a more vibrant state economy would be the solution to the tuition increases and lack of jobs that force Garden State graduates to settle elsewhere.

Christie, a former U.S. prosecutor, was flanked by his running mate for lieutenant governor, Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno, and former Gov. Tom Kean at the forum that was organized by Republican student organizations.

The event was moderated by blogger Matt Rooney of Savejersey.com, who selected some of the questions for the candidate from Twitter.com.

"Florio-esque" Is Not a Compliment in New Jersey

I still remember the bumper stickers, "Florio-Free in '93."

The Save Jersey Blog notes that the current New Jersey governor, Democrat Jon Corzine, is actually less popular than Jim Florio was at this point in his 1993 gubernatorial race against Christie Whitman.

At this point in 1993, Florio was leading Whitman by 9 percent; Corzine trails Republican Chris Christie by 10 in Quinnpiac's latest.

On the gubernatorial front, things get testy between Cardinale and Shaftan

The tension between the Christie and Lonegan camps has spilled out onto the internet, manifesting itself on two blogs: the pro-Lonegan Conservatives with Attitude!, run by Michael Illions, who organized Saturday's event, and the pro-Christie Save Jersey Blog.  The Web sites, which both lay claim to being New Jersey's top right-leaning outlet, have taunted each other throughout the primary campaign.  Just today, Save Jersey head blogger Matt Rooney referred to the rival site as "Conservatives with Angst!," while Illions said that Rooney's blog was "not conservative enough to ‘Save Jersey'" and linked to YouTube videos of paint drying and a tumbleweed blowing as alternatives to a Save Jersey interview with Rocco Riccio.
