Colbert Gives His ‘Expert’ Opinion

This morning, Comedy Central funny man Stephen Colbert was invited by Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), the chairwoman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee, to testify on the hot-button issue of immigration. His qualifications? Well, Save Jerseyans, I’m not sure if you know this, but Stephen Colbert recently did ten hours of farm work for a segment on his show, The Colbert Report. It is hard to argue that he is basically an expert based on that experience.

Immediately upon sitting down at the table, Colbert was asked to leave the hearing and was (politely) accused of being a distraction by Michigan Democrat John Conyers. Colbert, however, opted to remain at the hearing, saying he would only leave at the request of the chair, who invited him…for some reason.

Colbert did eventually offer some testimony, but none of it was substantive as he was actually asked to remain in his television character while under oath. Just a few of his notable lines:

I certainly hope that my star power can bump this hearing all the way up to CSPAN1 . . .

The obvious answer is for all of us to stop eating fruits and vegetables . . . Maybe the easier answer is to have scientists create vegetables that pick themselves.

Maybe we could offer more visas to immigrants, who let’s face it, will probably be doing these jobs anyway.

Before we jump all over the Democrat party for inviting a fictional character, remember that Republicansheld a hearing in 2002 where Sesame Street’s Elmo testified. No, not the person who is the voice of Elmo. I mean the actual puppet. These fictional hearings are a waste of taxpayer time and money and should not continue.
