Alonso Ready for Rematch with Gordon in LD38

Fernando Alonso is the presumptive Republican nominee for State Senate in New Jersey 38th Legislative District, Save Jerseyans, according to our sources close to the BCRO.

Alonso, an Oradell-based attorney, serves as director of the Anthony J. Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He’ll now serve as the Republican Party’s top candidate in one of the state’s most competitive legislative districts in recent cycles.

He’s no stranger to LD38 legislative races.

In 2013, Alonso lost a very close state senate tilt with incumbent Democrat Bob Gordon, 52% to 48%, losing by only about 1,600 votes.

In 2015, Alonso was almost drafted as a last-minute replacement for GOP Assembly Candidate Anthony Cappola (who had to withdraw after a very un-PC book came to light), but he would’ve entered the race too late to serve as much more than a placeholder for the doomed Republican ticket.

Since 2011, LD38 has encompassed the Bergen County towns of Bergenfield, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Hasbrouck Heights, Lodi, Maywood, New Milford, Oradell, Paramus, River Edge, Rochelle Park, and Saddle Brook and the Passaic County borough of Hawthorne.
