500+ rally in Toms River ballroom for Guadagno-Rendo

It’s a prime summer vacation week for many Americans, Save Jersey faithful, but in one of the Jersey Shore’s Republican strongholds, this year’s Republican gubernatorial ticket was flexing its muscles tonight a full three months from the general election.

The Days Inn Toms River-hosted rally featured a crowd of over 500 gathered to hear from Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno flanked on stage by her running mate Mayor Carlos Rendo, RNC Co–Chairman Bob Paduchik and GOP power broker George Gilmore.

Paduchik’s appearance at the rally/fundraiser belies reports that national Republicans aren’t interested in this year’s contest despite a strong early money lead on the Democrat side of the aisle.

“If we can be successful to taking that message out to New Jersey voters, if you people in this room and thousands of other supporters across this state can make phone calls and knock on doors, this is definitely a winnable race,” the co-chair told assembled supporters.

Guadagno’s public polling position is daunting but allies insist internal polling painting a much more competitive picture.

Her path to victory undeniably requires a landslide showing in Ocean, where Toms River turnout looms large, as well as her neighboring Jersey Shore home base of Monmouth where the Lieutenant Governor served as sheriff.
