Ocean County freeholders file federal lawsuit against Murphy’s AG Grewal, challenging Sanctuary State

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Ocean County’s long-threatened lawsuit against the Murphy Administration was filed in federal court on Wednesday, Save Jerseyans.

The three-count complaint names Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and accuses him of exceeding his constitutional authority by issuing the infamous ‘Sanctuary State’ directive that took effect in March 2019. The Plaintiff – Ocean County’s all-Republican freeholder board – argues that the directive “is preempted by the federal government’s exclusive authority to regulate and enforce immigration laws.”

Other municipalities throughout the state have also voiced opposition the directive; the Middlesex County community of Old Bridge recently voted to initiate its own lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Sussex County is currently battling the Murphy Administration over its own attempt to put an anti-Sanctuary State question on its November ballot
