The -proposal federal legislation aims to bar discrimination against individuals for their hairstyles or textures.

U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D, LA-2) is the House’s prime sponsor for the companion legislation.
“Discrimination against black hair is discrimination against black people,” Senator Booker said in a statement. “Implicit and explicit biases against natural hair are deeply ingrained in workplace norms and society at large. This is a violation of our civil rights, and it happens every day for black people across the country.”
Once a moderate on some issues by Garden State standards, Booker’s political rhetoric has become increasingly reliant on race-baiting as his presidential prospects have dimmed.
California and New York have already passed similar legislation to Booker’s federal proposal at the state level. New Jersey is on of the states currently considering taking action. Assemblywoman Angela McKnight is the sponsor of A-5564 which, if enacted, would amend New Jersey’s anti-discrimination statute by adding hair to the functional definition of race-based discrimination.
