New Poll: Christie Approval at 51%, and More

The latest Fairleigh Dickinson University poll finds that 51 percent of New Jerseyans now approve of the way Chris Christie is performing his job as Governor, while 41% disapprove.

There are a few other notable bits of information from the poll. For instance, Christie’s favorability rating is below the halfway mark at 47%, but his unfavorable rating is right in line with disapproval at 41%. While the difference is somewhat small, there are people out there who may not like Governor Christie, but know he is doing a good job running the state with taxpayers in mind.

Contrast this with the NJEA’s numbers. The poll finds their ratings at 39% approval and 38% disapproval, meaning that the remaining 33% responded by saying something along the lines of “NJE-who??” This should come as a huge disappointment to the state’s second largest liberal front group. They have been spending millions of dollars, dollars that come from your pay check to your property taxes to teachers salaries into union dues, to smear the Governor and raise their profile and image in the state as we lead up to 2013. However, their numbers have remained flat and in some cases have even gone down thanks to Christie shining a light on the inefficiency and failure that the NJEA causes.

The most telling part of this FDU poll thats shows the direction New Jersey voters will be looking this year is a question with regard to spending.

More than three of five voters (64%) continue to say the state should hold the line on spending even if many programs are reduced, while one in four (26%) say the state should raise taxes if necessary to support state programs.

It looks like New Jersey taxpayers are finally starting to get it.
